Regular Meeting Schedule
We meet on the first and fourth Sundays of each month at 10:30 AM. We also meet on the Saturday before the first Sunday of each month at 3:00 PM.
Although we do not meet on the second and third Sundays of each month, services are held at Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Marshville with our pastor.
Additionally, we meet on the Saturday before the second Sunday at 6:00 PM for supper and singing.
For those unable to attend in person, we now offer a live-stream of the meetings on Zoom. Click here for more information on the live-stream.
Special Meeting Schedule
Our annual communion meeting is on the first Sunday of August. Usually, we invite a visiting minister to preach this meeting. We do practice close communion, so only baptized members of a Primitive Baptist Church in good standing are eligible to participate. However, others are invited and welcomed to observe.
The third weekend of September of each year is the Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Association meeting, which is held at the Agri-Civic Center in Stanly County, NC.
What to Expect
We believe in the simple order that Christ gave His church: singing, preaching, and praying. Therefore, our typical worship service begins with 30 minutes of congregational singing, followed by prayer and preaching.
Singing – During the singing portion of worship, the entire congregation sings in unity of praise to God. There are no musical instruments, choirs, or rehearsals; instead, each person sings with the best of their ability and in spirit, although not with technical perfection. In doing so, we obey the Lord’s commandment in Colossians 3:16:
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
Colossians 3:16
Praying – It is our custom to open and close the worship service with prayer. We believe that scripture teaches us to pray for one another, the sick, the mourning, those that rule in authority over us, and even our enemies. When we pray, we pray in the name of Jesus Christ and in faith believing that God answers the prayers of His people.
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
from James 5:16
Preaching – In the pattern of the New Testament Church, we assemble ourselves together for the preaching of the gospel. In the simple pattern given to us by Christ, we practice age-integrated worship – which means infants, toddlers, children, young adults, middle-aged adults, and the elderly all sit together and hear the same sermon and the same teaching.
We believe preaching is a great and needed blessing, but we reject the idea that preaching saves sinners from hell. The blood of Christ, and only the blood of Christ, can do that! Instead, the purpose of preaching is to inform God’s people of what He has already accomplished in Christ and to instruct and encourage them to live as obedient children. The overarching subject in each sermon is Jesus Christ, His perfections, and His example for us.
“And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”
I Corinthians 2:1-5
In conclusion, the repeated idea in our pattern of worship is that of “simplicity.” God’s people have been liberated from the Old Testament law service with all of its intricacies and ceremonial requirements. Praise God! Now, we worship not with grand outward displays, but in “simplicity and godly sincerity.” The emphasis is turned inward – serving God in gratitude and one another in brotherly love.
